While thinking of placing the coffee table, always think about its usage. Coffee table should always be placed near the sofa as people will sit there and can have a sip of coffee or tea. There should be some space around the coffee table. The height of an average coffee table should be eighteen to nineteen inches. But if you want to sit on your lounge chair or sofa and eat from that coffee table, then the table should be little higher.

It is advisable to place the coffee table at the distance of eighteen inches from the chairs or the sofa. Otherwise you guests may find it uncomfortable using the table. Go for a round coffee table if you have small place. In such cases place the table at twelve inches distance. A square coffee table looks good if you have a sofa and a couple of chairs in your living room.
